Why every ministry needs an accountability partner

12. June 2025

Have you ever had someone in your life who cheered you on, challenged you when needed, and believed in your potential, even when you doubted yourself? That’s what an accountability partner does. And as Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

We all need people who help us stay on track. Whether it’s sticking to a goal, staying faithful to a calling, or making progress in ministry, an accountability partner makes the journey purposeful and joyful.

So, what makes a great accountability partner?

  • A Motivator: They inspire you and lift your spirits when things get tough. They celebrate your wins and stand by you through the setbacks.
  • A Challenger: They don’t let you settle. They push you to aim higher than you thought possible.
  • A True Ally: They want you to thrive, not only for the sake of the team, but because they care about you.

In fact, a study by the American Society of Training and Development found that when you have accountability to someone else, your chances of success go up by 95%. That’s a game-changer.

What about accountability for ministries and churches?

There’s a growing global movement of Peer Accountability Groups (PAGs) for Christ-centered organisations. These networks walk alongside ministries to help them grow stronger, stay transparent, and remain faithful to their mission. Some of these networks are listed below:

  • Stewardship – United Kingdom
  • African Council for Accreditation and Accountability (AfCAA) – Sub-Saharan Africa
  • NABLA Initiative – Arabic-speaking Africa
  • Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) – United States
  • Canadian Centre for Christian Charities (CCCC) – Canada
  • CONFIABLE – Consejo Evangélico de Finanzas para América Latina (Guatemala)
  • Evangelical Financial Accountability Council (EFAC) – India
  • Christian Ministry Advancement Standards Council (CMA Standards Council) – Australia
  • Indonesian Council for Christian Stewardship and Accountability (ICCSA) – Indonesia
  • Christian Council for Financial Transparency Korea (CCFK) – South Korea
  • Christian Council for Transparency and Accountability (CCTA) – Philippines
  • EHRENKODEX – Switzerland

Why partner with one of these accountability groups?

Here’s what your church or nonprofit could gain:

  1. Credibility: These groups help you build trust by ensuring biblical standards of honesty, transparency, and integrity.
  2. Strengthening your organisation: Through reviews and advice, they help you grow healthier—structurally and spiritually—by improving governance, systems, and internal policies.
  3. Collaboration opportunities: They connect you with other like-minded ministries to share strategies, ideas, and resources. Learning from others can save time, money, and effort.
  4. Clarity of mission: Accountability helps you stay focused on your God-given purpose. As Jesus said in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

At the end of the day, accountability isn’t just about compliance, it’s about thriving as a ministry. It’s about building trust and credibility with local congregations and funders, both local and international. It’s about walking together in integrity, so the Gospel shines even brighter through your work.

So, if you’re leading a Christian ministry or church, don’t walk alone. Find an accountability partner who will journey with you, sharpen you, and help your ministry grow strong—on biblical foundations.

Let’s build stronger ministries. Together.
